Every now and then, a board arrives that gets everyone in the shop talking. The Firewire Great White Twin is definitely one of those.
At first glance, it looks like another stylish twin fin, but after spending some time with it—and hearing what our local surfers had to say—we quickly realised it's something quite different.
Designed by Kelly Slater together with Dan Mann, the Great White Twin wasn't created to be a traditional retro twin. Kelly wanted a board that kept all the speed and freedom of a twin fin but could also handle better waves with more power.
In fact, the outline was inspired by one of the ocean's most efficient hunters: the great white shark. Kelly studied its silhouette from above and below before translating those lines into the board's shape.
And honestly... it makes sense once you surf it.
If you've surfed twin fins before, you probably know the feeling: incredibly fast and playful, but sometimes a little too loose when the waves start getting good.
That's exactly where the Great White Twin stands out.
It has noticeably more rocker than a classic twin, so instead of only loving soft summer waves, it really comes alive when there's a bit more shape and push in the surf.
Kelly himself describes it perfectly:
"I don't really like flat waves. But as soon as there's a bit of curve in the wave, it just lights up."
That became pretty obvious back in 2020 when he quietly paddled out at the Pipe Masters on a mysterious black twin fin and surfed it all the way to the semi-finals.
Although it was designed as a twin fin, Firewire added a centre fin box for a stabiliser.
It's a small detail that makes a surprisingly big difference.
Ride it as a pure twin if you're looking for maximum speed and freedom, or throw in the stabiliser when the waves get a little bigger and you want more drive and control.
It's almost like getting two boards in one.
The Great White Twin is built using Firewire's I-Bolic construction together with their Volcanic basalt technology.
Without getting too technical, the board feels incredibly solid while still keeping that lively, responsive flex that Firewire boards are known for.
One thing Kelly often mentions is how resistant these boards are to pressure dents—and after handling a few of them ourselves, you immediately notice how premium they feel.
One of the best parts of working at Pozowinds is that we get to see boards in real conditions, not just in marketing videos.
We asked our colleague Edu to spend some time on the Great White Twin around Gran Canaria and it´s different spots, and his feedback pretty much confirmed our first impressions...
Edu: "I expected it to feel loose like most twins, but it surprised me straight away. It generates speed incredibly easily, yet it never feels out of control. With the stabiliser, it has plenty of grip when the waves get a bit more powerful. It's one of those boards that just makes you want to keep surfing for another hour."
Some of our local customers who have already tried it had similar thoughts.
"What stood out the most was how versatile it feels. It still has that playful twin-fin character, but it doesn't punish you when the conditions become a little more challenging. It just keeps flowing."
That's probably the best way to describe it.
The Great White Twin isn't trying to be a retro board.
It's trying to be a modern performance twin—and we think Firewire absolutely nailed it.

If you're curious about twin fins but don't want something that only works in tiny summer surf, the Great White Twin is definitely worth a look.
Fast, playful and surprisingly versatile, it's one of those boards that puts a smile on your face after just a couple of waves.
If you're around Gran Canaria, feel free to stop by Pozowinds. We'd be happy to show you the board, chat about sizing, and help you figure out whether it's the right fit for the kind of waves you love to surf.
